Review Activity One

My video can be viewed here: Video

I am in the process of editing my whole website, so please pardon the rest.

1. Describe the process you used in selecting and manipulating the images you used.

In order to make my video slide show I needed photographs from my trip. I used 18 photos, 16 of them being real photographs that I took on my trip. The other two were found via internet. I love using photoshop and manipulating photos, especially ones that I have taken. Sometimes when looking back at my pictures, the colors just aren't the same as being there. Adobe Photoshop allows me to brighten the hues and let each color pop. Using Photoshop I was able to take four photos and combine them to make one image.

2. What image format did you find most suitable for your images (jpg, gif, png, etc) and why?

Many of the photos used were my own and therefore were taken from my camera as jpegs. When making a collage on Photoshop, I saved them as jpegs and pdfs. Through my time in the program I have learned that having each of these saved is beneficial. If something were to happen, the pdf could be sent to another computer and opened there. Sometimes, jpegs don't always download correctly. I have also found that jpegs are much user friendly and can be easily opened and edited if need be by other programs.

3. Describe the process you used in selecting and manipulating the audio you used.

In searching for audio I knew that I wanted music in the background that had no words. I wanted a song that I not only liked, but could listen and enjoy just listening to an instrumental version. I saved the music clip as an mp4 file. I then opened Audacity and was then able to import the song from my downloads. Using the tools I edited the music to only play 2 minutes, the length of my video.
The second audio I used was the voice over narration for my video. Using iMovie I was able to use the record tool to create my narration. I then lowered the volume of the music and increased the volume of my narration so that that would be the loudest.

4. What audio format did you find most suitable for your audio (mp3, aiff, wav, etc) and why?

The music that I found was an mp4 file. That downloaded easily to Audacity and uploaded easily to iMovie. I did not try to save it as another format to edit.

5. Describe the process you used in developing the video (with audio), uploading it to YouTube, and adding closed captions.

The final product was created using iMovie. However, to start I used Microsoft Power Point. I created the slides for my slide show using this program. I imported images that I created using Adobe Photoshop into my power point. The animations were added during this phase as well. I wrote out my script so that I would know when the animations should happen. There is a feature that customizes the amount of seconds the slide should delay moving to the next slide. I saved my power point as a movie and was able to import the movie into iMovie. Using iMovie I added transitions from slide to slide. Once I knew how long my video was, I was able to use Audacity to edit the downloaded music to fit into the time period needed. Once that was set I recorded my narration. When I played it back I could tell that the music was over powering my voice. I lowered the volume of the music and increased the volume of the narration. I then saved my video to my laptop. I opened YouTube and was able to upload my video. I used YouTube's features to create my closed captions. The program tried to create the captions automatically, but many things were wrong so I had to go back and edit the text.

6. What video format did you find most suitable for publishing your video to YouTube and to your web page?

The video was saved as an mp4 file and uploaded to YouTube that way. I was then able to use the embed code to put the video directly on the webpage, instead of just a link to the YouTube page.
